My Christmas Contemplation

At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:41 (NLT)

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. It is a time when family and friends come together; even sometimes after not seeing each other for months or years. It is also a time when conversations among those gathered can become highly opinionated, such as abortion. I am not sure why but the issue of abortion and those that call themselves Christian / pro-abortionist has been heavy on my heart.

Before fully following Jesus, I leaned more towards pro-abortion especially in cases of rape, incest, or if the life of the mother was in danger. After all our society, school systems, and media work hard to convince everyone it is just a mass of cells. Once those cells exit the womb; then most call it a baby except many in New York City.

After surrendering to Jesus, my views on abortion changed. I see it as the murdering of an individual. It really sunk in this Christmas as I heard Luke 1:41. I thought how can anyone call themselves a Christian and believe that it is just a mass of cells that can be killed as here is a story of John the Baptist leaping in the womb when the unborn Jesus came near. It was not a mass of cells leaping, it was John the Baptist. My thinking is to believe this as untrue would be to believe the Bible untrue and how could I call myself a Christian if I believed that?

Then Matthew 1:18 tells of Mary becoming pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Mary did not ask for this to happen. If this were to happen today I wonder how many people even those that call themselves Christians would say Mary was raped and she should abort the cells. I cry at even the thought. Thankfully, Mary was courageous and brought forth Jesus, our savior into the world; fully man and fully GOD.

Anyway, this all started over a Christmas get together with someone that was pro-abortion and calls themselves a Christian. I did not say much other than I thought abortion was wrong, but since then Luke 1:41 and Matthew 1:18 keep floating around in my mind. I know abortion is a hot topic for many. I just hope that if you call yourself a Christian that you will pray and let these two verses guide you.

Many do not know that Melinda had endometriosis when she was 14 and had an eight-pound cyst removed. The doctor at the time told her she would most likely not be able to have children. We got married knowing that if she could not have children we would try to adopt. God did choose to bless us with two beautiful children. We still have not forgotten James 1:27 were God reminds us to care for the orphans. We had discussed becoming foster parents and were looking into Foster Care & Adoption Information Meetings right before the cancer diagnosis. I’m not sure if that is in our future, so, for now, we donate to Hope Pregnancy Center and Helping Hands as our way of helping. Many pro-abortionists use the argument that there is no one to adopt or care for these unborn cells so kill them. We pray that if you can you consider adoption, foster parenting, or donating to places that assist mothers to keep their unborn child.

Melinda had an MRI on Friday. We see Radiology next week and then Oncology two weeks later. We are praying for healing, but most importantly that God’s will be done and his GOSPEL be shared as a result of this latest situation we find ourselves in.

May GOD bless you and your family in 2020.

PS: If you happen to be someone that has had an abortion or helped with an abortion just ask GOD for forgiveness. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ to die for all our sins. We just have to have to ask. If you have any doubts, read Abby Johnson’s story or watch the movie Unplanned.
