Song of Solomon 8:6-7

A Letter to My Daughter

It is hard to believe that you will be getting married tomorrow. I have so many mixed thoughts as the time approaches. Am I losing a daughter? Gaining a son? Are you ready? Am I ready? Is he ready? How will life change for us both? As you embark on this new journey as a wife, I know in my heart that you will shine as brilliantly in this new role as you have in every other aspect of your life as long as you remember to always keep God first.

I have watched you grow from my little girl, filled with dreams and aspirations, into a beautiful woman of substance, grace, courage, and resilience. Your life has been filled with trials that some might find insurmountable, yet you have been able to face them all with Jesus at your side.

The loss of your mom, Melinda Newman, was a trying time for both of us. Followed soon after by your papa, Bill Pitt. Our faith in God’s plan carried us through. Her memory lives on in the incredible woman you have become. I can only imagine how happy she is for you and Brandon.

You are stronger than you think

Your qualities of courage, resilience, strength, commitment, endurance, your mom’s personality, my sarcasm :), along with other quirks picked up from family and friends, and maybe a little bit of Troy ISD and Texas A&M have shaped you into the extraordinary woman you are today. You have consistently shown a spirit that reflects Proverbs 31:25, “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.” You know I do not like to use the word proud, but I have to say I am PROUD of you.

As you step into this new chapter of your life, I see the dreams we both share for your future. The Christian values that you hold dear will guide you as a loving wife and, God willing, a nurturing mother. Your faith in Christ will be the foundation of your marriage, as stated in Ecclesiastes 4:12, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

I pray that you will embrace this change with the same grace and determination that you’ve shown throughout your life. Remember the words in Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

As your dad, my dreams for your future are simple. I wish for you a marriage filled with God, love, respect, joy, and growth. I pray for you and Brandon to form a family where you both will pass down the values and teachings that have shaped you, nurturing future generations in the love of Christ.

I believe you are an embodiment of 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” I pray you both will always walk in faith, love, and the power that comes from the Holy Spirit.

I know your future holds great promise, and I can’t wait to see where this new journey takes you. Trust in the Lord’s plan, lean on each other and know that I and your bonus mom will always be here for you, cheering you on, praying for you, and loving you more than words can express.

A prayer for you both

Dear God,
Megan and Brandon’s wedding is almost here. Please guide all the details so they come together, but mostly I pray you surround Megan and Brandon with peace. Give them both a restful night’s sleep as the emotions of this day grow stronger. May tomorrow be enveloped by your Spirit, so that each guest and participant feel as if they are a part of something special; something founded in true love. I pray for their wedding day to be glorifying to you, Jesus, as we give you praise and thanks for this wonderful gift of love you have given to Megan and Brandon. I thank you for my new-to-be son-in-law! God, I pray for your love to be known and celebrated throughout tomorrow.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

With all my love,
Dad
