Psalms 28:7

2020 Happy Thanksgiving, ?

I looked up the word happy in the Merriam-Webster dictation. I never realized the word had so many different meanings. I was thinking how difficult is to be “Happy, Happy, Happy”, given all that is going on in today’s world, but with the broad definition of happy, I think everyone should have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Some have been favored by luck or fortune during 2020 (think stock market), so this group of people have had a happy coincidence. Some are notably fitting, effective, or well adapted to all the change in 2020, (think riots, elections, BLM) in other words, this group of people are happy about the choices they have made. Some enjoy or are characterized by well-being and contentment all the time (think those that know and follow Jesus), this group of people are some of the happiest I know, even during 2020. Some are expressing, reflecting, or suggestive of happiness in 2020 (think elections, end of COVID lockdowns), this group of people are just looking for a happy ending to 2020. Some have or are marked by an atmosphere of good fellowship in 2020 (think church, office, school), this group of people are just happy to be together. Some could be characterized by a dazed irresponsible state in 2020 (think COVID restrictions, elections, riots, fires, hurricanes), this group of people feel like they got hit by a punch-happy boxer and are not sure what is happening. Some are impulsive or obsessively quick to use or do something in 2020 (think vote, riots, defund the police), this group of people are often called trigger-happy; is that ironic? The last group according to Webster are enthusiastic about something to the point of obsession (think political party, wear/don’t wear a mask, get or skip the new COVID vaccine) often referred to as statistic-happy.

I currently find myself, punch-happy as I am in a dazed irresponsible state but THANK GOD I am in the follows of Jesus group and I am surrounded by friends and family that are full of contentment and joy to help me continue moving forward. I pray that you have a Happy Thanksgiving and will find some Happy, Happy, Happy. I think you should be able to find some in one of the groups above, but I pray you find it in Jesus.

By joining the group that follows Jesus, you will find everlasting happiness. That happiness is what I am most THANKFUL for. It comes from knowing that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and then defeated death, to give me that blessed hope. This world is not our home and if you do not know Jesus this is the best you will ever have it, but for those that know Christ, this is the worst it will ever be. The reason you see so much happiness in followers of Jesus is we know that in the end, HE WINS and we will be with him.

Would you like to know real happiness?

LORD Jesus,
THANK YOU for dying on the cross for our sins, but most importantly rising again three days later so we can have eternal life
with you. I THANK YOU for it today, tomorrow, and forever. I am thankful that YOU meet my needs and the needs of my family each day. I am Thankful that YOU give us the opportunity to tell others about YOU. I ask that you give us the strength and wisdom to do it in a way that honors you.
THANK YOU, Jesus,
Amen.
